My hypothesis is that all Anglo-American social movements are structured as religious crusades of social purification. American Social Imaginaries are divided between Utopian and Apocalyptic. Utopian chiliasm envision establishing the Millennial Kingdom whether through a technological singularity, the founding of Woman-Only Publics, free-markets, self-actualization, moral reform or de-instrialization. Apocalyptic thinking is focussed on world destruction as a cleansing. The destructive-purification, social imaginary Focusses on plague, Nuclear War, economic collapse or environmental collapse 

The 1840’s Communist Church was a Utopian Socialist Cult. Read wanted to transcend gender and embrace divine androgyny:
